NewsJanuary 25th, 2006Statement by Wyclef JeanI would like to clarify that when I called for a cease-kidnapping during the time that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in Haiti, I did so by calling the radio and television stations in Haiti and asking them to put the request over the airwaves. I also asked my friends to call the radio and television stations. I wanted everyone to call so that the message would be heard across the land and Haiti could have peace for a day. I am grateful to my friends Angelina and Brad for coming to Haiti. Their visit brought hope to the people, hope in that someone cares enough about Haiti to visit it and bring attention to the situation there. Yéle Haiti is about stopping the violence; the hand in the Yéle Haiti logo means “stop the violence.” I want to see the violence in Haiti stopped. Innocent people, innocent children are getting hurt and killed every day. If it works to stop the violence by calling the radio and TV stations, even for one day, we have taken a small step toward the success of that goal. |
